INTRODUCTION
Implementing curriculum-based skill training programs with industry-recognized learning centers to award certificates and endorsements to learners was the core of the Skill India programs. The purpose also included developing possibilities for both short- and long-term skill training and employment, as well as integrating skill-based learning into the school curriculum.
NEED
Given that 75% of Indians are of working age, the nation is considered "young," and building a workforce with the necessary skills and education will be crucial to strengthening India's economy as a whole.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) projects that by 2030, India would probably have a deficit of about 29 million skilled workers. Following this, Accenture forecast in 2019 that India's skill shortfall might cost the nation US$ 1.97 trillion in terms of GDP over the next ten years if it does not take prompt action, such as investing in new technologies or developing skills needed by the business.
The Indian government's "Skill India Mission" seeks to increase the employment rate in the nation by helping people acquire the practical skills that businesses need.
Since going into effect, the mission has increased employment. The employment rate rose to 37.9% in January 2021 from 36.9% in December 2020, while the unemployment rate decreased to 6.5% in January 2021 from 9.1% in December 2020, according to data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy.
SKILL INDIA MISSION
By 2022, the government wanted to train 400 million Indians in a variety of skills—more than 40 crore individuals.
Essential abilities:
Training for apprenticeships: The program was established to improve the nation's apprenticeship prospects by offering engineering graduates and diploma holders post-educational vocational training.
Technical Intern Training Program (TITP): This program helps develop human resources and fosters international collaboration by allowing the transfer of knowledge, skills, and technology among participating nations. For a predetermined amount of time (three to five years), the program offers students options for professional development courses in Japan's industrial society.
Online skilling: B2C digital e-learning sites that create and source e-learning content.
FUTURE
Given that India is known as "a youth country," its people may be its most valuable asset. The nation should prepare its young workers not just for the home market but also for the global one. This may be done by mapping skills and creating training programs that match them, implementing best practices, partnering with international universities, and obtaining industry-ready talents.
The government's cooperation with international businesses and private citizens will also make it easier to carry out a number of initiatives, guarantee the availability of a skilled labor force, and boost employment—all of which could contribute to India's rise to prominence as a global hub for talent.
